Vintage Turkish Rug Pillows

Vintage Decor

I absolutely love seeing vintage rugs in people's homes online, but an authentic vintage rug doesn't come cheap.  But, there are other ways to get the look in your home without spending an arm and a leg.  You can purchase rug remnants from some sellers, which is essentially a rug that's been cut up into smaller pieces.

Many people use these sections to frame.  Jordan at House Becomes Home Interiors and Lauren at Bless'er House have both done these.  Jordan shares her home decor finds for herself and clients on Instagram.  She changes up her home a lot, which I like, since I trend that way, too.  She also has more rugs than me, so it makes me feel better about myself and my "problem" collecting rugs.

Lauren and her husband Robert share home renovation, thrifting and diy projects.  I get SO many ideas from her.  The butterfly printable art, hobnail vase makeover, and lime washing our house!

She has such a great eye for design and her style is what I would describe as modern traditional.  I just love her energy and am so impressed with her seemingly endless ideas and talent. She cut up this rug (I don't think it was vintage) and framed a section in a shadow box

If you're not into DIY, and love the look of the framed rug remnants, check out Target for this set of 24x30" textured fabric art.

Vintage Rug Pillows

Okay, I could spend all day browsing rugs and throw pillows, so this is one of my favorite ways to incorporate vintage into our home--combining rugs and pillows!  I ran across this fabulous shop on Etsy (I think from Jordan?) called Kilim Pillow Oriental. You can order just the sham and it ships within the week from Turkey!

I chose three different designs, and used down inserts from old TJ Maxx and HomeGoods pillows to fill them.  It worked perfectly.  It's often cheaper to find a down pillow at one of those stores than to order inserts somewhere online.  Plus, it works just as well, and you get a bonus cover for basically nothing.  Buying shams, instead of entire pillows also makes it easier to store, if you're like me, and like to switch up your pillows for the season.

Since these aren't the softest, and my family always complains about me buying these rough pillows, I try to place them where people aren't lounging on them.  They look great on a little bench, but I also like to set them out on our hearth because I love the colors and textures.

Fireplace Makeover

Since I don't encourage anyone to flop on the beds once they're made, the bed is the perfect place for this kind of statement pillow.  I have our bed pretty neutral right now, so I can mix it up with different pillows and throws.

I can't remember the first example of fluted wood furniture I saw, but it was probably either this gorgeous custom wood bathroom vanity from Chris Loves Julia , or the DIY fluted coffee table Fariha shared on Pennies for a Fortune . The custom cabinetry was done professionally using a router for each line, which isn't something I possess the skills to do. This did help inspire the colors I used in our bathroom remodel, though! I really connected to the method Fariha used to build the coffee table--wooden dowels. What a fabulous idea!

I did a little refresh in our daughter's room, and I decided we needed some large-scale art. I actually planned to order a print, but inspiration struck on a trip to HomeGoods when I saw two HUGE framed canvases on clearance for $25 and $9. I grabbed them up and headed home, with my head filled with ideas on what to do with them.

I love peel-and-stick wallpaper so much! It's an easy, DIY fix for any space that just needs a little refresh. Because it's easily removeable, I feel much more confident going ahead and choosing a pattern. I struggle to commit to traditional pasted wallpaper--I think it's because we removed so much of it when we bought our house. It is no easy task. Peel-and-stick is also very economical, so if you decide to change it up a few years down the line, it doesn't feel so bad. I've now put it in four areas of our house. Today, you'll see the kitchen and den. It's the same pattern in different colors. I love how much the simple pattern really just makes each space.

Just for fun, here's a freebie--a digital download for some fall wall art! This quote is from Anne of Green Gables. I still want to read the book, but I was a huge fan of the series Anne with an E on Netflix. Just click on the file, download it and print it at home or send it to a place like Office Depot. Happy October!
