Young Kids' Gift Guide 2021

There's not much I love more than buying gifts.  I'm also the person who buys something for you, and wants to immediately tell you what it is.  I put a lot of time and energy into it every year for holidays and birthdays.  Christmas is our BIG gift-giving occasion around here, and I always like to include a few items NOT on everyone's list, but things I think they'll love.  Sure, we're going to have plenty of Barbie and LOL dolls under the tree, but it's nice to mix things up a little.  Most of the toys on this list are things that are tried-and-true favorites in our house, so I hope you grab some this year and enjoy!  I've heard toys are going to be harder to get this year, so I'm releasing this into the wild early.

Be sure to check out my 2021 Beauty Gift Guide, too!

Gift Guide

1.  Flower Garden Building Toy - $32.99

This is the most adorable toy.  It's so fun to create together, making a beautiful OR silly garden!  It's also great for independent play. Endless possibilities!

2.  Shapes Puzzle - $14.99

Children draw a card and use the shapes to create the picture on the card.  You'll be amazed at what they can do.  Creations range from simple to more complicated.

3.  My Busy Books - Disney Princess Great Adventures - Tails of Adventure -$12.00

These are some of the most favorite toys in our house, and come in so many different themes.  Themed figurines come with a foldable paper mat with different scenes, and are perfect for imaginative play.  We play with and without the mat, often using the figures to play in other sets.  I ordered another set as I was making this guide.

4.  Magnet Building Blocks - $27.99

Magnets make it easy to build the designs in your head.  These are super fun to play around with and kids love them.

5.  Reusable Sticker Pad - Play House - Vehicles $6.49

These remind me of the Colorforms of the 80s, which I LOVED.  Stickers are great, but these are static, so you can use them over and over.

6.  Bucket Stilts - $19.99

These are at a safe level off the ground and it's fun for little ones to clomp around the house.

7.  Horse Stable - $26.49

This is a beautiful toy.  This classic stable is fun and has the bonus of storing the small pieces all together to make a nice display.  You won't feel bad about leaving this one in view.

8.  Lite-Bright - $12.79

Another classic toy! It's super fun to create colorful pictures in the dark.  Make your own or follow a pattern included in the set.

9.  YWF Pizza Sensory Kit - $39.00

Young Wild and Friedman makes the most adorable sensory kits for children.  This pizza kit is unique and I can't think of any kid who wouldn't love to make their own pizzas with play dough and accessories.

10.  Sam's Little Explorer Sofa - $179.00 or The Nugget Play Couch - $229.00

We have the Little Explorer Sofa from Sam's and LOVE it.  This is a bit of an investment, but you won't be sorry you have it.  Kids can use it for a couch, lounging, make a fort, a mat for tumbling, and more.  It's sleek, modern design and variety of colors make it easy to find something you'll love in your home.  It's the best and we use it every day.

11.  View Master - $18.99

Simple, but fun, this classic throwback toy is fun for kids who are used to looking at all photos on a phone.

12.  Wiki Sticks - $6.91

These are great to take with you to a restaurant, or trip, where quiet play is nice.  Making 3-D sculptures provides lots of fun.

13.  Water Beads - $11.99

Perfect for sensory play (seriously, look up the benefits!), these can't be beat.  Every time I get them out, the kids find endless uses for them.  We like to keep them in a shallow dish and add characters or figurines so things are corralled.

14.  Mini Plastic Figurines - $15.95

Sometimes simple is best.  Let your kids have some figurines outside, or add play dough inside and watch their imaginations go wild.  This is a nice set with several themed tubes of figures.  Try giving them one set at a time to make the fun last longer.  I like to pull out a set on a rainy (or just boring) day!

15.  Memory Game - $10.99

Ahh, Memory--one of my favorites as a kid AND an adult!  This is great for developing connections in young brains and this colorful set is just adorable.  They have lots of themes, so choose what your kids will like best.  For younger kids, try only using part of the deck for easier and quicker games.

16.  Bristle Blocks - $34.99

I discovered these in the dressing room of a local boutique when my son was a toddler.  He was mesmerized by these bristly blocks and they occupied him completely while I tried on clothes.  The only problem was that he wasn't ready to leave! haha

17.  Let's Go Fishin' Game - $10.98

Great for fine motor skills, this game is challenging and fun for small hands.  No rules to follow, so super easy to get started.

18.  Yeti in my Spaghetti - $8.64

Another fun, simple game that's sure to end in laughter!  Help develop fine motor skills and strategy while deciding which noodles to remove--without letting the yeti fall into the bowl!

19.  Magic Tracks - $19.97

These are fantastic!  They are easy to put together and adjust the track just like you want.  You can buy expansion packs for even bigger courses.  This keeps kids' attention for long periods of time and is a so fun for solo or group play.

20.  Imagine Ink - $15.95

Another great item for quiet time, these books are full of different activities you can do with the "magic" marker.  I like to use these for a fun surprise during the week.  It'll keep them busy!

I can't remember the first example of fluted wood furniture I saw, but it was probably either this gorgeous custom wood bathroom vanity from Chris Loves Julia , or the DIY fluted coffee table Fariha shared on Pennies for a Fortune . The custom cabinetry was done professionally using a router for each line, which isn't something I possess the skills to do. This did help inspire the colors I used in our bathroom remodel, though! I really connected to the method Fariha used to build the coffee table--wooden dowels. What a fabulous idea!

I did a little refresh in our daughter's room, and I decided we needed some large-scale art. I actually planned to order a print, but inspiration struck on a trip to HomeGoods when I saw two HUGE framed canvases on clearance for $25 and $9. I grabbed them up and headed home, with my head filled with ideas on what to do with them.

I love peel-and-stick wallpaper so much! It's an easy, DIY fix for any space that just needs a little refresh. Because it's easily removeable, I feel much more confident going ahead and choosing a pattern. I struggle to commit to traditional pasted wallpaper--I think it's because we removed so much of it when we bought our house. It is no easy task. Peel-and-stick is also very economical, so if you decide to change it up a few years down the line, it doesn't feel so bad. I've now put it in four areas of our house. Today, you'll see the kitchen and den. It's the same pattern in different colors. I love how much the simple pattern really just makes each space.

Just for fun, here's a freebie--a digital download for some fall wall art! This quote is from Anne of Green Gables. I still want to read the book, but I was a huge fan of the series Anne with an E on Netflix. Just click on the file, download it and print it at home or send it to a place like Office Depot. Happy October!
